Just the Other Day, Mom

Just the other day, Mom
Again I needed you.
As I gazed upon your picture
Into your eyes of blue.

Memories began unfolding
Of times when you were here.
Grandchildren all around you
As you wiped away their tears.

How much I'd miss your helping hand
Back then I never knew.
But just the other day, Mom
Again I needed you.

Peeling apples in the kitchen
For Dad's favorite apple pie.
Your cup of coffee there beside you
These memories never die.

How many times I've thought about
Your thoughtful deeds and ways
And though we disagreed sometimes.
I miss you so today.

And just the the other day, Mom,
Stopping to catch a breath or two,
I caught the scent of your favorite rose
And again I needed you.

You left us all quite suddenly
So many years ago.
How very much we've missed you
Surely God has let you know.

The seasons change and the years pass by,
But your memory is here to stay
For again I found I needed you, Mom,
Just the other day.....
